Paper Abstract:      The Information, Communication, and Technology (ICT) revolution has had a profound impact on how the world’s people function and interact. Indeed, ICT is a major pillar on which the global village is founded. In addition, new technologies play a fundamental, integral role in enabling sustainable human development and the eradication of poverty. Overwhelmingly, the principal focus of ICT adoption and diffusion literature is grounded in the benefits accrued from its progressive influence on the development process. But, what is the influence of new technologies on an individual’s “state of happiness”? Hence, is it possible for higher levels of ICT usage to be positively associated with increasing “states of happiness”? This short concept paper aims to explore these questions. To conduct the research, a pilot survey instrument is used among staff and students at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, Kingston, Jamaica. The results of the pilot survey find that it is not possible to reject our hypothesis that a positive association exists between higher levels of ICT use and an individual’s increased “state of happiness”.
